Budget Annapurna Circuit

The classic loop at backpacker prices

The Annapurna Circuit is often called the greatest long-distance trek on Earth. You cross the Thorong La pass at 5,416m, walk through subtropical forests, arid Tibetan-influenced landscapes, terraced rice paddies, and high-altitude desert — all in one trek. Our budget price of $600 for 16 days covers everything: guide, porter, all permits, accommodation, and meals. The Annapurna Circuit does not require an expensive flight to Lukla, making it inherently cheaper than EBC. We pass those savings directly to you.

Budget Annapurna Circuit — Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the Annapurna Circuit cheaper than EBC?
Two reasons: (1) No Lukla flights. The Annapurna Circuit starts with a bus ride from Kathmandu to Besisahar ($25) instead of a $360 round-trip flight to Lukla. This single difference saves $335. (2) Teahouse prices are slightly lower in the Annapurna region compared to the Khumbu (Everest) region. The trek is 2 days longer, but the daily cost is lower.
How hard is crossing Thorong La pass?
Thorong La (5,416m) is the crux of the trek. The ascent from Thorong Phedi starts at 3-4am and takes 4-5 hours. It is not technical — just steep and at altitude. The descent to Muktinath is steep and can be hard on knees. With our proper acclimatization schedule (rest day in Manang), most trekkers cross successfully. Your guide monitors everyone's health and will not push you if you are showing altitude sickness symptoms.
What about the road construction on the circuit?
Road construction has reached some lower sections of the Annapurna Circuit. Our guides use alternative trails and upper routes wherever possible to avoid road sections. The best sections (Manang onwards, Thorong La, Muktinath to Tatopani) are still pure trekking trail with zero road. We continuously update our route based on current conditions.
Can I do the circuit clockwise?
We strongly recommend counter-clockwise (the standard direction) for safety. This direction provides gradual acclimatization before the pass, and the steep descent from Thorong La is much easier going down than up. Almost all trekkers go counter-clockwise.
What is the best season for the Annapurna Circuit?
October-November is best: clear skies, stable weather, and the most open Thorong La pass. March-May is second best with warmer temperatures and rhododendron blooms. December-February is cold but possible. June-September (monsoon) is not recommended due to rain, leeches, and poor visibility.
