Budget Langtang Valley — Frequently Asked Questions

How does Langtang compare to EBC for budget trekkers?
Langtang is $350 cheaper ($400 vs. $750), 7 days shorter (7 vs. 14), requires no flights, and is less crowded. You trade the Everest name and extreme altitude for an intimate valley experience, Tamang culture, and glacier views at 3,870-4,984m. If your budget or time is limited, Langtang is the smarter choice. If you specifically want to say you stood at Everest Base Camp, EBC is worth the extra investment.
Is Langtang safe after the 2015 earthquake?
Yes, completely. The trail is fully restored, teahouses are rebuilt and operational, and the trekking infrastructure is solid. The Tamang community has shown incredible resilience. Visiting Langtang is one of the best ways to support their ongoing recovery. You will see memorial sites along the trail — they are moving and important.
Should I climb Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri?
Kyanjin Ri (4,773m) is easier — 3 hours round trip, achievable for anyone who made it to Kyanjin Gompa. Tserko Ri (4,984m) is harder — 5-6 hours round trip with some scrambling. The views from Tserko Ri are more expansive. If you are feeling strong and well-acclimatized, go for Tserko Ri. If not, Kyanjin Ri is still spectacular. Your guide will advise based on your condition.
Can I extend the trek to Gosaikunda?
Yes. Adding the Gosaikunda extension (3-4 extra days) takes you over Laurebina La pass (4,610m) to sacred alpine lakes. This turns the 7-day trek into a 10-11 day adventure. Budget add-on: approximately $180-220 extra. Ask us when booking.
What is the best season for Langtang?
October-November (clear skies, best visibility) and March-May (warmer, rhododendron blooms). December-January is cold but possible with good gear. Avoid June-September monsoon season.
